The southern section of the M2 metro line has been opened after three years of construction. Passengers can now use three new stations: Wilanowska, Stokłosy and Służewiec.
The works included the construction of three stations, a 2.8-kilometre tunnel and a new depot. Around 80,000 passengers are expected to use the new section every day.
"This is an important day for southern Warsaw. The metro will cut the journey time to the centre by up to 20 minutes," the metro spokesperson said. Trains will run every 3 minutes at peak hours and every 5 minutes on Sundays.
