A 35-year-old resident of the Mazovian Voivodeship has been taken into custody on charges of leading an organized criminal group that introduced forged prescriptions for drugs with narcotic effects into circulation. The decision to place him under three-month temporary detention was made by the Poznan – Stare Miasto District Court. This arrest is the eleventh and most recent intervention in an investigation that has been conducted since June of this year by the Police in Piła under the supervision of the Poznan Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Start of the case and scale of the fraud

The investigation began after a report from one of Piła's residents, who noticed a suspicious prescription appearing on their online patient profile. The report allowed officers from the Economic Crime Department of the Piła County Police Headquarters to uncover an organized structure involved in the illegal acquisition and distribution of medicinal products and psychoactive substances. According to investigators' findings, this scheme lasted for nearly three years, and its participants treated criminal activity as a permanent source of income.

Findings and criminal liability

The detained man, whom the police associates with the freak fight scene and reality TV programs, was charged with, among other things, managing a criminal group. The organization's objective was to create false medical documents and use them to illegally obtain large quantities of medications. As stated by the police, the losses incurred by the National Health Fund (Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia) as a result of these actions exceed one million Polish zlotys.

The suspect faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison for the described offenses. Among the 11 people detained in this case, the judge decided to apply temporary detention to seven of them, including the most recently arrested 35-year-old.
