Autumn and winter in Warsaw do not have to mean giving up on activities on the Vistula. The Vistula District has prepared a rich cultural, sports and recreational offer designed to attract residents and tourists despite the lower temperatures. The key elements of this program are upcoming special events, regular sports meetings and the availability of year-round water infrastructure. In recent weeks, new gastronomic and entertainment spots have also opened in this part of the city, complementing the map of attractions in the Vistula space.

Cultural Traditions and Novelties by the River

The central point of the autumn calendar will be the Pumpkin Lantern Festival, organized by Dom Figula. The event combines Hungarian traditions with autumn fun and charitable activities. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a pumpkin carving contest, where creative ideas will be judged, and a prize is planned for the most beautiful pumpkin. An important part of the festival is the food collection for those in need, giving the event a character of solidarity. This initiative refers to a Hungarian custom, known e.g. from the festival at Heroes' Square in Budapest, where making lanterns is combined with help for needy families and children.

Also at the turn of the calendar year, a traditional event awaits residents. The Hydrological New Year takes place every year on October 31 at the WWA Water Station. This is an opportunity to summarize the ending hydrological year, which begins in November due to the water cycle in a temperate climate. The meeting is open to the public and is preceded by an expert part with short presentations and a panel discussion on the significance of water for the city's life.

New Culinary and Recreational Offer

On Gen. George Smith Patton Boulevard, the gastronomic offer has been expanded with traditional Hungarian cuisine, which corresponds to the theme of the pumpkin festival. Near the new bridge across the Vistula, Makai Gastrobar opened, which has two pavilions and outdoor terraces providing comfort throughout the year. It is a place where you can not only rest with a hot drink, but also enjoy popular skill games.

An important element of autumn recreation is also regular sports meetings. At Kawiarnia Przystań, as part of the year-round space of Przystań Warszawa, boulevard chess meetings are held every Saturday at 3:00 PM, organized in cooperation with the Fundation of Unusual Initiatives. This is a permanent point in the calendar of chess lovers, allowing for relaxation after a walk along the boulevards.

Cruises on the Vistula in Cooler Months

The passenger navigation offer in Warsaw remains available in the autumn-winter season as well. Four barges serving the function of navigation piers are year-round facilities, and the shipowners ensure that appropriate climate on the decks, blankets and hot drinks enable comfortable viewing of the capital from the perspective of the river. The offer includes not only classic sightseeing cruises, but also sessions at sunrise and sunset, as well as educational expeditions combined with stories about the history of Warsaw and the Vistula.

A special novelty of the current season are weekend cruises launched in the newly opened Żerański Park. A new boat, Żer, operates there, and its offer complements the outdoor sauna functioning in this area. According to Jan Piotrowski, Commissioner for Warsaw and the Vistula, the boat is already waiting for guests visiting Port Żerański. In previous seasons, winter on the Vistula attracted many willing participants, provided there were no dangerous ice phenomena, and residents could enjoy free cruises even during the holiday and New Year period.
