Officers of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Police (CBŚP), in cooperation with the Częstochowa District Prosecutor's Office, detained ten individuals suspected of running an organized criminal group. The investigation found that the members of the group took over the assets of one of the universities in Częstochowa, resulting in the theft of properties worth approximately 29 million PLN and significant sums of money from bank accounts.
The investigation covers the group's activities during the period from 2023 to 2026. A key element of the criminal scheme was the use of an altered document in August 2023 at one of the notarial offices in Warsaw. As reported by the source, the false document indicated that one of the men had been appointed to the honorary council of the university's founding body. This allowed the suspects to gain control over this body, which enabled them to dismiss the current rector and take over the university's property rights.
As a result of the group's actions, properties with a total value of approximately 29 million PLN were misappropriated. Additionally, the perpetrators withdrew approximately 5.5 million PLN and approximately 300,000 euros from bank accounts. The proceedings also revealed other criminal acts, including fraud against tenants of the properties that served as the university's headquarters. The suspects deceived these tenants regarding their authority to collect rent, causing losses of approximately 4 million PLN. Another line of inquiry involves fraud related to the conclusion of car leasing contracts, resulting in losses of approximately 3.5 million PLN for leasing companies.
The detainees have been charged with a number of offenses, including the use of an altered document, misappropriation of property rights, fraud against tenants and leasing companies, and money laundering. Two individuals were charged with establishing and directing an organized criminal group, while the remaining eight face charges for participation in the structure. The detained individuals may face sentences of up to 25 years in prison.
