Officers from the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) arrested two additional individuals linked to an international, organized criminal group. The operations were carried out as part of an investigation under the supervision of the Olsztyn District Prosecutor's Office, and a statement published on October 30, 2026, described the status of the proceedings and the scale of the crimes.
Modus Operandi of the Perpetrators
The group specialized in "legend" scams (pretext fraud). The scheme involved impersonating bank employees and conducting phishing campaigns. Victims received links leading to fake, fabricated websites. The criminals used advanced social engineering methods to convince the victims to invest funds on alleged investment platforms. In practice, this resulted in the total loss of their savings. The investigation established that the suspects gained access to unauthorized information, including bank accounts, and entered new computer data records.
Scale of the Proceedings
According to authorities, the criminal structure included individuals at various organizational levels. Charges include establishing and leading an international criminal group, money laundering, and fraud using advanced telecommunications infrastructure. To date, charges have been brought against hundreds of suspects. Among them are citizens of Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Georgia, and Poland.
As a result of the analysis of the evidence, several hundred victims have been identified. The total value of the losses, according to the status of the proceedings at the described stage, exceeded 20 million PLN. Numerous mobile devices were secured during searches and will be examined by forensic computer experts.
Threat of Penalty
The two most recently arrested men were taken to the Olsztyn District Prosecutor's Office. They were charged with directing and participating in an organized criminal group, money laundering, and multiple counts of fraud. Preventive measures in the form of temporary detention were applied to both suspects. They face a penalty of imprisonment of up to 15 years for the acts committed. The case is still developing.
