The Central Office for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) announced the conclusion of operations aimed at the spread of a fake application posing as mObywatel. The operation, based on the cooperation of 12 territorial departments of this unit, led to the detention of 21 people, including 13 minors, and the search of 27 addresses across several voivodeships. The officers' goal was to stop the distribution of a script that enabled the generation of virtual identity documents containing false data.
As part of the proceedings, police secured over 30 devices, including mobile phones, laptops, and desktop computers. The analysis of the evidentiary material confirmed the criminal activity of the detained individuals, including correspondence and the history of financial transfers. The minor participants in the scheme admitted to purchasing the false software. Some of them served a promotional function, advertising the application on the internet, and also managed the website and distributed the script among acquaintances. After completing the proceedings with the minors, the relevant documentation was handed over to the appropriate family courts.
The adult perpetrators were brought to the appropriate prosecutor's offices, where they were charged with participating in an organized criminal group. They also faced charges for the illegal production, acquisition, sale, or provision of computer programs, as well as material forgery of a document. During the proceedings, temporary detention was applied to three full-age detainees, while police surveillance was imposed on two others. The statement indicated that further arrests are planned in this case.
