Officers from the Investigative and Interrogation Unit of the Warsaw Białołęka Police Station, as part of operations by the specialized 'Scorpion' operational group, arrested two Romanian citizens in Rzeszów. The arrests were made in connection with the embezzlement of a luxury Mercedes valued at approximately 800,000 PLN. The vehicle had previously been rented by a 35-year-old man from a car rental company operating in the Białołęka district.
Case Details
The 35-year-old man, using a Romanian passport, entered into a vehicle rental agreement but failed to return the car by the specified deadline. His phone number proved to be inactive, and a message was sent to the company owner informing them of an alleged theft of the car and its keys. A representative of the victimized company reported to the Białołęka police station, informing them of the loss of contact with the client and the unexpected loss of property.
The investigation launched by the police revealed that devices used to track the vehicle had been removed from it. Further operational findings indicated that the perpetrator was connected to a network of luxury car thefts across Europe. Police from the 'Scorpion' group, which specializes in combating automotive crime, suspected that the man was planning another theft, this time of a luxury Mercedes belonging to a Rzeszów car rental company.
Operations in Rzeszów
Based on the information gathered, investigators identified a specific location in Rzeszów where the perpetrator was expected to appear. The arrests were carried out on the premises of the rental car company at the moment the 35-year-old man arrived accompanied by his 27-year-old companion, also a Romanian citizen. Both officers transported the detainees to the police headquarters in northern Warsaw, where further procedures were conducted.
Charges were filed exclusively against the 35-year-old man. A request for preventive detention was submitted by the prosecutor leading the investigation, and the court accepted it, applying a preventive measure in the form of three months of detention against the suspect. Embezzlement of property of such value carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years of imprisonment.
