In the Warsaw district of Żoliborz, a comprehensive renovation of the facade of the historic building at 10A Dymińska Street has been completed. The works included not only the restoration of the facade but also the stairwells and the cleaning of the facade from illegal graffiti. The modernization was financed with the support of the City of Warsaw (m.st. Warszawa), which allocated a total of over 659,000 PLN to this purpose in 2025 and 2026.

The Historic Architecture of Oficerski Żoliborz

The tenement house at 10A Dymińska was built between 1933 and 1935 and originally served as the Non-Commissioned Officers' House of the Military Quarters Fund. The building is part of a larger urban layout known as Oficerski Żoliborz, which is listed in the heritage register. The structure is maintained in a modernist style, and the facades were made of grey cement bricks. The plinths, entrance portals, and stairwell windows were faced with clinker tiles. The object has been preserved in its original form, which means that its renovation required a specific conservation approach.

Scope of Modernization Works

The housing community has been carrying out the works in stages since 2024. Initially, the stairwells were renovated, followed by the front facade, and in 2026 the focus was on the renovation of two gable facades. The contractors, acting based on the guidelines of the Capital City Heritage Conservator, focused on cleaning the cement bricks, clinker tiles, and joints. Missing parts and cracks were filled with specialized conservation materials selected for color matching. In accordance with conservation recommendations, a minimal amount of lustration painting technique was applied, which involves applying a thin layer of paint to a dried surface. Additionally, the facades were cleaned of illegal graffiti, which restored the building's aesthetic appearance.

Municipal Support for Monuments

The renovation of the tenement house at 10A Dymińska is one of many projects implemented thanks to the grant system run by the capital city. Within this program, support is provided, among others, to tenement houses in Śródmieście as well as buildings in Ochota, Praga-Północ, or Żoliborz. The city also finances conservation works on Warsaw churches and tombs at the Powązki Cemetery. Applications for co-financing of works planned for implementation in 2027 can be submitted until the end of October 2026.
