In late September, a group of beneficiaries of the Foundation for Widows and Orphans of Fallen Police Officers, accompanied by their children, took part in an integrative mountain expedition. The main goal of the hike was to reach Sněžka, the highest peak of the Karkonosze Mountains and the entire Sudetes range, which reaches an elevation of 1,602 m above sea level. The event was not only recreational but primarily served to build relationships and strengthen bonds within the group.
Before setting off to Karpacz, the participants attended a short history course in the Memory Room of the Provincial Police Headquarters (KWP) in Wrocław. The session, organized with the support of the head of the Lower Silesian Police, focused on, among other things, the life story of State Police Chief Inspector Piotr Jurczak. After the educational visit and a tour of selected locations in the KWP building, the group headed to Silesia to begin the mountain phase of the meeting.
The hiking route was approximately 15 kilometres long. The first section of the trail was the Łomniczka Kettle, leading to the Dom Śląski shelter, located at an elevation of approximately 1,400 m above sea level. Before the final ascent to the summit of Sněžka, the participants visited the Ecological Education Point of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management. Favourable weather and good visibility allowed for the observation of mountain landscapes.
After conquering the peak and taking a short break, the group continued their journey. The trail led through Biała Łąka and then to the Lucni Bouda point (approx. 1,410 m above sea level). Next, the route passed through characteristic rock formations such as Słonecznik (1,420 m above sea level) and Pielgrzymy (1,206 m above sea level). Along the way, participants passed by the Small and Large Reservoirs (Mały i Wielki Staw) and the Samotnia shelter. The last part of the descent from Pielgrzymy was steep, which necessitated the use of trekking poles for safety.
The entire walk lasted almost eight hours. Around 18:00, the group arrived at the Wang Church, from where they moved to a hotel for the night. The route was planned by Inspector Tomasz Jędrzejowski, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław, who accompanied the participants throughout the challenge. The next day, after returning to Wrocław, the plan included a visit to the Nature and Education Centre of the Karkonosze National Park in Sobieszów. There, the participants familiarized themselves with exhibitions concerning the region's nature and specific mountain climatic phenomena.
