The Warsaw Urban Transport Authority (Zarząd Transportu Miejskiego) has announced a tender to implement the next phase of the program to green P+R (Park and Ride) parking lots. The scope of the contract involves planting 321 plants at five selected facilities: P+R Metro Marymont, P+R Metro Wilanowska, P+R Metro Ursynów, P+R Anin SKM, and P+R Jeziorki PKP. The deadline for completing the planting works is the end of November this year, after which the contractor will maintain the newly planted greenery for one year.

Continuation of a Long-Term Programme

The current actions are part of a broader initiative that began in 2022 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Urban Transport Authority. Under the first phase of the project, 30 trees were planted at the P+R Metro Stokłosy, Wawer SKM, Ursus-Niedźwiadek, and Metro Młociny parking lots. The program has gradually evolved – in 2024, a green wall was created at the P+R facility by Wilanowska Metro station, and in 2025, following appropriate soil preparation, approximately 660 plants appeared at the parking lot in Wawer. Thanks to these investments, these facilities have acquired a more aesthetic and friendly character, and the plants have begun to play a role in improving air quality in the surroundings.

Planting Details

The new scope of work includes both plants planted in the ground and those in pots. At P+R Metro Wilanowska, which will undergo the most visible transformation, among other species, three plane trees, 11 mountain pines, reedgrass 'Blue Fortune', and 25 common tansy plants will be planted. The parking lot at Marymont Metro station will be enriched, among other things, with five Serbian spruces. At P+R Metro Ursynów, the planting of two Norway spruces, two paper birches, and two Bosnian pines is planned.

The project also includes plantings in containers to complement the landscape. These include Northwind blue fescue (notably at P+R PKP Jeziorki), common ivy (P+R Anin), and 'Palibin' lilac (P+R Jeziorki). ZTM emphasizes that these plants will not only be decorative elements but will also contribute to collecting dust from the air and producing oxygen.

Transformation of P+R Połczyńska and Future Plans

In parallel with the current tender, work is ongoing to transform the P+R Połczyńska parking lot into a modern, ecological space adapted to climate change. The facility is to be equipped with flower meadows, rooftop gardens, energy-efficient lighting, small architectural elements, and retention tanks. A recreational space will also be created, accessible to residents, and on weekends, approximately one hectare of the area will be able to function as an open urban park.

The Urban Transport Authority informs that the greening programme has not yet come to an end. In the coming year, it is planned to expand the activities to the P+R Młociny I and P+R Al. Krakowska parking lots.
