Police officers in Słupsk carried out effective rescue operations during a residential building fire on the night of October 24-25, 2026. Two people could have died in the incident, but thanks to the officers' intervention, a 71-year-old woman was pulled from the burning house. The duty officer received a report just before 3:00 AM regarding a burning gazebo next to one of the houses in the city.
Course of Events
The initial report concerned a burning gazebo, but when the police patrol arrived on the scene, it turned out that the fire had spread to the building itself. The flames cut off the possibility of evacuation through the main entrance. Officers quickly determined that a 71-year-old woman and her 30-year-old grandson were inside. The young man managed to leave the building on his own before the emergency services arrived. The senior citizen remained trapped on the second floor. The building also contained three gas cylinders, which significantly increased the risk of explosion and the escalation of the fire.
Rescue Operation
Faced with a dangerous situation, the police decided to enter the building and evacuate the injured woman. The rescue was carried out by Junior Assistant Dariusz Świebodziński and Senior Corporal Estera Szklarczyk. The officers used a ladder provided by a neighbor. With its help, they reached the second floor and pulled the woman outside. The senior citizen was handed over to the firefighters, who arrived at the scene a few minutes later.
Consequences
As a result of the incident, the 71-year-old woman and the two police officers involved in the evacuation suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning. The victims were transported to the hospital, where they were hospitalized for several hours. There is no danger to their lives.
Investigative Actions
The next day, police officers, assisted by a criminalistics technician and an expert in firefighting, conducted an examination of the burnt site. The evidence collected will be analyzed to determine the cause of the fire. The investigation in this matter is being conducted by the prosecutor's office.
