Works on the final segment of the second metro line in Warsaw, leading to Bemowo, have entered the stage of final preparations. The main focus of current activities is the Mory Technical and Stopping Station (STP Mory), a facility essential for the full operation of the rolling stock serving the M2 line. As reported by city authorities, intensive inspections and controls are being carried out on this infrastructure, which are expected to culminate in the issuance of permits for use. As part of the procedures, fire scenarios and the correct execution of train control systems, among others, are being verified.
Infrastructure on 25 Hectares
STP Mory is a complex located on the border of the Bemowo district and the Ożarów Mazowiecki municipality, occupying an area of approximately 25 hectares. More than 20 kilometers of tracks have been built on this land, a distance corresponding to nearly the entire length of the M2 line. This infrastructure is crucial for metro logistics, as this is where trains will begin their runs on the route. The complex includes dozens of specialized facilities, including electric traction substations, workshops, an automatic wash bay with a vacuuming chamber, support facilities for auxiliary rolling stock, and a signaling box. Additionally, two ventilation rooms will be built as part of the project.
Renewable Energy Power Supply
A modern approach to ecology is reflected in the station's power supply system. STP Mory will be powered by a photovoltaic installation consisting of nearly two thousand modules. The acceptance of specialized sections, including energy and track components, is currently being conducted in parallel with test runs. The latter aim to verify track safety and the operation of train control systems. On the service base site, cleaning works and landscaping are also being completed.
Relieving the M1 Line Service
The launch of STP Mory will bring significant changes to the organization of Warsaw metro traffic. Currently, the servicing of trains for both lines (M1 and M2) is largely carried out at the Kabaty Technical and Stopping Station. The new infrastructure in Bemowo will allow immediate introduction of reserve trains onto the M2 route, thereby relieving Kabaty and optimizing the operation of the M1 line. Thanks to this, trains serving the western section will be able to start their runs directly from the end of the line, without the need to maneuver through the city center.
Three New Passenger Stations
In parallel with the construction of the technical station, works on three passenger stations that will be put into use are being finalized. These are: C3 “Lazurowa” in the area of the intersection of Górczewska and Lazurowa streets, C2 “Chrzanów” at the intersection of Rayskiego and Szeligowska streets, and C1 “Karolin” with sidings in the vicinity of Połczyńska and Sochaczewska streets. The STP infrastructure is already being integrated with these new stations and with the existing, operational section of the M2 line. After the completion of all acceptance procedures and the receipt of permits for use, the entire infrastructure will be handed over for operation, opening the last Bemowo metro section to passengers.
Project Financing
The western section of the M2 line is part of a larger project titled “Construction of the II Metro Line with Accompanying Infrastructure – Stage IV”. The total value of this project, including construction and rolling stock purchase, amounts to 3,000,830,693.00 PLN. The investment is co-financed with funds from the European Union. The funding granted under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021-2027 program, from the Cohesion Fund, amounts to 1,125,000,000.00 PLN. The completion of construction and the launch of STP Mory is the last step before the full operation of the western part of the second metro line.
