On November 5, 2026, it was announced that work on installing Warsaw's new Christmas lighting had begun. It is to cover the Old Town and New Town as well as many locations in the New Centre of Warsaw, and its switch-on is planned for early December. This is the first season with the new decorations, which are to remain in the city until 2029. The previous lighting, which referred to Warsaw of the 1950s and 1960s, was removed at the end of winter after three seasons.
New decorations and their scale
The Multidekor company is responsible for delivery and installation. The new installation is to contain nearly 2.9 million energy-efficient LED points and more than 900 decorative elements and sets, including Christmas trees, carousels, figures, light gates, photo points and interactive installations. Controllers are expected to be used, which will allow the power of the LED points to be reduced during hours of lower traffic, limiting electricity consumption and light pollution.
Historical figures and legends
The traditional large Christmas tree is to be placed on Castle Square. It is to be decorated with several tens of thousands of LED lights, and software is to enable smooth changes in color and light intensity. In the area around Castle Square, motifs related to Warsaw legends are also to appear, including the Basilisk and the Stone Bear, while illuminated books are to introduce the stories of the heroes of urban fairy tales. Selected installations are to react to the presence of visitors.
On the New Town Market, a light carousel with the Golden Duck, Warse and Sawa is planned, while on the Old Town Market, figures, among others, of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, Fryderyk Chopin, Stanisław Moniuszko and Bolesław Prus are to be placed. For families, there are also to be spatial baubles and photo points, which are to encourage fun and contact with Warsaw stories.
The New Centre in a festive space
The new concept links the historical part of the city more strongly with the New Centre of Warsaw. Important new locations are Central Square and Świętokrzyski Park, which are to create a space for winter walks, gatherings and family fun in the surroundings of the Palace of Culture and Science. A tall Christmas tree is to be placed on Central Square, Christmas trees are also to appear on the Old Town and New Town markets, and a light structure in the shape of a festive tree is to be erected on Plac Trzech Krzyży.
Light mapping on the Staszic Palace is also to be an element of the decorations; the building's façade is to be enlivened by images, lights, animations and music.
A Light Garden in Świętokrzyski Park
As part of the new contract with Multidekor, a year-round light installation was launched in Świętokrzyski Park a few weeks ago. The park's lighting recently underwent modernization, which was a first step towards further enlivening the area under the Palace of Culture and Science. On October 15, a light garden with motifs of plants, flowers and insects was opened to residents.
A section of the park's alley, about 50 metres long, was transformed into an interactive light space. Images displayed on the pavement react to the presence of pedestrians thanks to motion sensors, allowing walkers to trigger and change light motifs.
