In Warsaw, installation of new Christmas lights has begun, and they are expected to be switched on in early December. Decorations will appear in the Old Town and New Town, as well as in many places in Warsaw's New Centre. This is the first season with a new set of ornaments inspired by the city's history, legends, residents, and the Vistula.

New Decorations on the Royal Route

The previous Christmas lights referred to Warsaw in the 1950s and 1960s and accompanied the city through the last three seasons. The new decorations on the Royal Route, according to the material, will be used until 2029. Multidekor is the supplier and the company carrying out the installation.

The project includes almost 2.9 million energy-efficient LED points and more than 900 decorative elements and sets. These include Christmas trees, light carousels, figures, light gates, photo spots, and interactive installations. The controllers used are intended to allow the power of the LED points to be reduced during hours of lower traffic, which is meant to limit electricity consumption and light pollution.

A traditional accent will be a large Christmas tree on Castle Square, whose decoration will be made up of several thousand LED lights. Software will allow the color scheme and light intensity to be changed. In the area of Castle Square, characters from Warsaw fairy tales and legends will also appear, including the Basilisk and the Stone Bear.

On New Town Market Square, a light carousel with the Golden Duck as well as Warsem and Sawa is planned. On Old Town Market Square, figures of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, Fryderyk Chopin, Stanisław Moniuszko, and Bolesław Prus will appear.

New Centre in a Festive Setting

The new concept includes a stronger inclusion of Warsaw's New Centre. One of the key places will be Central Square, where a tall Christmas tree will be erected. Świętokrzyski Park will be incorporated into a festive space for winter walks, meetings, and family fun in the surroundings of the Palace of Culture and Science.

Christmas trees will also appear on the Old Town and New Town market squares, and on the Square of the Three Crosses a light structure in the shape of a festive tree will be erected. A projection mapping on Staszic Palace will also be part of the illumination, intended to enliven the building's facade using images, lights, animations, and music.

Light Garden in Świętokrzyski Park

Under the new contract with the company Multidekor, a year-round illumination was launched a few weeks ago in Świętokrzyski Park. On 15 October, residents were given access to a light garden with motifs of plants, flowers, and insects. A 50-metre-long section of a park walkway converted into an interactive light space that responds to pedestrians' movement is attracting particular interest.
