The Masovian Institute of Culture announces a new date within the Small Artistic Residence program, inviting Nina Rzeszutko to collaborate. The artist and educator will develop her project in a Warsaw kordon (a historic guardhouse) located at 12 Elektoralna Street. The residence will start on October 6, 2026, and last until December 31 of the same year, although the specific exhibition and presentation program is scheduled for the period from October 6 to December 3, 2026.
The “Sami zwykli ludzie” Project
The central point of the resident's work will be the project titled “Sami zwykli ludzie” (Just Ordinary People). Its goal is to document daily, often overlooked stories and neighborhood relationships that build local community. The artist focuses on carefully observing the immediate surroundings, seeking in the mundane elements that can connect people and give meaning to the shared inhabited spaces.
Within the framework of the residence, Nina Rzeszutko plans to create a space for meeting and dialogue, where every participant has the right to be heard, regardless of whether their story seems exceptional or banal. The collected stories, observations, and experiences will be subjected to artistic interpretation. As the artist notes, the point is to make visible what usually goes unnoticed and to show that peace and the ordinariness of existence are a value, not a reason for indifference. The project aims to check whether residents are still creating an active community, or rather living next to each other, instead of with each other.
Artistic Practice and Resident's Profile
Nina Rzeszutko is a graduate of the master's degree program in Art Education at the University of Special Pedagogy. In her work, she combines artistic practice with education, paying particular attention to working with children. Although she initially focused mainly on painting, in recent years she has increasingly turned to photography and film, treating them as tools for observing and documenting reality.
The artist's international experience includes a six-month academic exchange at the Institut für Kunstpädagogik (Institute for Art Education) at Leipzig University. Her works have already been presented at numerous exhibitions in Warsaw, including at the Institute of Art Education of the University of Special Pedagogy and the Śródmieście Cultural Centre.
MIK Small Artistic Residence
The Small Artistic Residence program has been operating within the structures of the Masovian Institute of Culture since July 2024. Its mission is to create conditions for free creative work for young artists, as well as to enable them to make direct contact with the audience. The residence offers space for experimentation, developing new projects, and reflection on one's own practice.
The resident's workshop is located in the left kordon of the MIK building at 12 Elektoralna Street. Entry is available through the gate of this part of the structure. On selected days, the residence opens its doors to visitors. Admission to all events organized in this place is free. Since 2025, in selecting artists for the program, MIK collaborates with the Institute of Art Education of the University of Special Pedagogy, which acts as a project partner.
