On the night from Saturday to Sunday, November 1, a life-and-death intervention took place at one of the crossroads in the center of Radom. A 40-year-old woman suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, but thanks to the quick reaction of a passerby, her life was saved. The entire situation was recorded by city surveillance cameras, which allowed for a full reconstruction of the events.
Course of events and assistance provided
The incident occurred at around 1:00 AM. The injured woman, who had just left a nearby establishment, suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground. Nearby was Asp. Grzegorz Hernik, a police officer from the Personnel and Training Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters located in Radom, who was off duty that day.
The officer, who was walking nearby with his wife, noticed the woman lying on the ground and immediately began rescue actions. Initially, the unconscious but breathing woman was placed in the recovery position, and the officer cleared her airway. Shortly after, the injured woman regained consciousness and made contact with the people providing assistance.
Unfortunately, after attempting to shake herself off and take a few steps, the woman lost consciousness again. As witnesses report, before falling, she grabbed her chest, reporting severe pain and burning. Asp. Hernik continuously monitored the injured woman's vital signs. At one point, a cardiac arrest occurred, and the woman stopped breathing.
The importance of time and professionalism
The officer knew that time was of the essence in this situation. Without hesitation, he began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. After a few minutes of intensive assistance, he restored the woman's vital functions. Until the arrival of the medical rescue team, Asp. Hernik monitored the injured woman's condition. The paramedics transported the woman to the hospital.
This incident demonstrates how important the quick reaction of witnesses and basic knowledge of medical rescue are. The conduct of Asp. Grzegorz Hernik, who immediately took action to save a life despite being off duty, is an example of daily readiness to provide help. The Provincial Police Headquarters in Radom reminds everyone that anyone witnessing a similar situation should immediately call the emergency number 112 and, if necessary, when the injured person is not breathing, begin resuscitation, strictly following the dispatcher's instructions.
