Police officers from the Prevention Department of the Szczecin City Police Command, supported by a trained service dog, found a man who, after a road traffic collision, abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene. The intervention, during which numerous irregularities were uncovered, resulted in the application of a preventive measure in the form of police supervision against the perpetrator.
Upon arriving at the location where the abandoned car was found, the officers deployed a four-legged canine named Węza. The dog picked up the scent trail, allowing the officers to follow the olfactory tracks and leading them to the man distancing himself from the incident site. Quickly reaching the person of interest was made possible by the efficient cooperation between the handler and the service dog.
During further proceedings, it was established that the man was in a state of intoxication at the time of the incident. The test revealed 0.33 mg/l of alcohol in the exhaled air. It also turned out that the driver had been operating a vehicle despite being under a court-issued driving ban. The officers also found a plant substance in his possession. As it soon turned out, the same day brought him further legal problems – investigations revealed that the man had also committed two break-ins into vehicles.
