On Wednesday, November 4, 2026, renovation works began on two sections of Grenadierów Street in Warsaw. The works are being carried out simultaneously by two entities: a developer and the municipal unit responsible for road investments. The biggest disruptions will primarily affect pedestrians, who will be forced to use the opposite side of the roadway for the duration of the works. Drivers must expect changes in traffic organization, including narrowed lanes and the temporary closure of certain road sections.
Scope of works
According to the schedule, the developer will handle the sidewalk renovation on the section between Spalinowa Street and Washington Avenue. Works will be conducted on the side of Spalinowa and Cyraneczki streets. Meanwhile, on the section from United States Avenue to Ostrobramska Street, the city will begin preparations for replacing the roadway surface. This includes, among other things, the renovation and replacement of curbs on both sides of the street and the repair of traffic islands separating the roadways. Works at property entrances will be coordinated with property owners in each individual case.
Disruptions for pedestrians and drivers
On the section from Spalinowa to Washington Avenue, sidewalks will be closed in phases, and pedestrian traffic will be directed to the other side of the street. Crosswalks will be narrowed, but access to Grochowski Hospital will remain possible throughout the works. During the works at bus stops, vehicles will stop a few meters away from the designated spot. In some places, the roadway or bicycle lane may be narrowed.
The situation is similar on the section from United States Avenue to Ostrobramska: sidewalks will be closed in segments, and pedestrians will travel on the other side of the roadway. Curb replacement may result in the temporary narrowing of a traffic lane to three meters. Betonowa Street will lose its connection to Grenadierów Street, and two-way traffic will be introduced on its route. No-parking zones will be established near the construction sites. In the vicinity of the works, at Ostrobramska Street, the bicycle path will also be opened to pedestrians.
Traffic organization at intersections
Changes will also affect intersections. In the area where Grenadierów intersects with United States Avenue, drivers coming from the direction of Spalinowa will have two lanes: one for turning right and one for going straight or turning left. Directly after the intersection, the right turn into Fundamentowa Street will be closed, and traffic will flow on a single lane. Traveling in the opposite direction, towards Washington Avenue, drivers will encounter a narrowing of the right lane before the aforementioned intersection. All crosswalks at this junction will remain open.
At the intersection with Ostrobramska Street, works at the height of the turn into Białowieska Street will force the closure of the right lane on the roadway heading towards Ostrobramska. Before the intersection itself, drivers will be able to use all lanes. During nighttime hours (from 22:00 to 6:00) and on weekends, the right or left lane of the Grenadierów roadway in the direction of Ostrobramska will be closed just before the intersection. On the roadway running from Ostrobramska towards Majdańska, the traffic lane will be narrowed. During works on the island separating the roadways, the left lane in the direction of Ostrobramska will be closed, and the roadway in the opposite direction will be narrowed.
Planned completion
After the completion of the current works, in the transition period between November and December 2026, the laying of a new asphalt surface is planned on Grenadierów Street. Access to Grochowski Hospital is to be maintained throughout all works.
