Teatr Wielki - Opera Narodowa has prepared a special offer for seniors as part of the nationwide “Weekend Seniora z Kulturą” (Senior's Cultural Weekend) programme, organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The event will take place on 3 and 4 October 2026 and aims to encourage older people to actively participate in cultural life and to discover places that are usually inaccessible to the public.
The weekend programme includes, among other things, tours of the theatre's hidden corners, a lecture on the history of costume, and a ballet performance. On Saturday, 3 October, a tour is scheduled for 10:00, followed by the ballet “Giselle” at 12:00. Sunday, 4 October, features more events: tours take place at 10:00, 12:00, and 13:00, while the lecture “Theatrical Costume and Its History” will be held at 11:00. This topic will be presented by Katarzyna Wodarska-Ogidel from the Teatr Wielki Museum (Muzeum Teatralnego). All weekend events are conducted in Polish in groups of a maximum of 20 people.
Participation in the tours and the lecture costs 10 PLN, while the ticket for the “Giselle” performance is 46 PLN. Due to the limited number of seats, organizers indicate that early purchase of a ticket at the Teatr's box offices guarantees participation.
Also on 3 October 2026, ticket sales will begin for the February “Open Rehearsals” intended for seniors aged 60 and over. This event offers a chance to observe the creative process from both a technical and artistic perspective, allowing participants to look behind the scenes of the Teatr Wielki troupes' work. In February 2027, the scheduled rehearsals include a piano and orchestra rehearsal for the opera “Don Quixote” (under the direction of Yoel Gamzou and Piotr Jaworski), an orchestra rehearsal for “Król Roger” (King Roger) (conducted by Piotr Jaworski), a piano rehearsal for “Simon Boccanegra” (conducted by Francesco Angelico), and an orchestra rehearsal for the opera “Dracula” (conducted by Patrick Fournillier). The rehearsal dates are set for 3, 4, 10, 11, and 27 February 2027.
