On October 16, 2026, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) released new educational materials aimed at online shoppers. The publication, featuring the slogan “Before you click, you buy – check who you are buying high-risk purchases from,” was created in the context of the upcoming Senior Day. The main objective of the initiative is to increase consumer vigilance towards fraudulent practices, particularly those related to orders from foreign e-commerce platforms and transactions made under the dropshipping model.
Warning signs of suspicious stores
In the provided guide titled “Shopping from Asia?” in PDF format (7.87 MB in size) and in graphic materials, UOKiK points out specific features that should raise a buyer's alertness. Basic warning signs include the absence of the company name, headquarters address, or the entrepreneur's contact details. Another key indicator is the lack of store terms and conditions. The Office also draws attention to language errors, illogical formulations, and content copied from other websites, which often indicate the low quality and dishonesty of the provider.
The educational materials also address threats associated with popular platforms Meta and Google, as well as fake store mechanisms. UOKiK emphasizes that even people who are well-versed in cyberspace can fall victim to fraudsters, which is why it is crucial to pass on knowledge to their surroundings, including seniors who may be more exposed to such practices. The Office calls for intergenerational exchange of experiences to reduce the risk of family members losing money.
Help and return procedures
The guide also contains information on product return procedures in the event of contract termination. Consumers are explained where the product should be returned to and what potential costs may be associated with this process. To obtain further help, persons affected or those with doubts can contact the UOKiK infoline at numbers 801 440 220 and 222 66 76 76 (charge according to operator's tariff).
