The City of Warsaw has announced planned renovation works for November 2026, which will affect several key streets in the capital. Between 6 and 16 November, drivers and public transport passengers may encounter significant changes in traffic management. These changes are necessary for the replacement of asphalt surfaces and the modernization of tram infrastructure. Below is a detailed schedule of the works and their impact on public transport.
Asphalt Surface Replacement on Czerniakowska Street
The first of the planned tasks are works on Czerniakowska Street, which will begin on Friday, 6 November 2026, at 22:00. The scope of work includes milling the old surface and laying a new one. Due to the extensive nature of the works, the period of disruption will be longer than usual. Traffic is scheduled to be restored on Wednesday, 11 November, at 4:00.
During the works, both carriageways of the street will be closed on the section between Trasa Siekierkowska and the intersection with Idzikowskiego and Gołkowska streets. Traffic will be directed to detours. Drivers heading towards Praga Północ will be guided via Trasa Siekierkowska, Aleja Witos, Jana III Sobieskiego Street and Świętego Bonifacego Street. Meanwhile, traffic from Powsińska and Gołkowska will be directed via Idzikowskiego Street to Aleja Witos. Alternative routes via Gagarina, Belwederska and Jana III Sobieskiego streets to Idzikowskiego, and from the Wilanów side – Przyczółkowa, Aleja Wilanowska and Jana III Sobieskiego to Aleja Witos, will also be available. During this period, access to Pyjasa Street and Plac Bernardyński from Czerniakowska Street will be difficult. Changes in bus routes will affect lines 131, 162, 180, 185, 187 and N83.
Renovation of Modlińska and Popiełuszki Streets
In parallel with the works on Czerniakowska, but with a slightly earlier start time (21:00 on Friday, 6 November), road workers will begin replacing the surface on Modlińska Street. The scope of works covers the section near the city border. The street will be closed towards Praga on the fragment from the intersection with Aluzyjna Street to the first intersection with Światowida Street. The renovation is expected to last until the evening of Tuesday, 10 November. During the works, drivers will be able to use the carriageway leading to Jabłonna in both directions – towards Praga with one lane, and to the Warsaw border with two lanes. Detours for Aluzyjna Street will be via Modlińska, Światowida, Dzierzgońska and Sprawną streets, while for Prząśniczek Street – via Modlińska, Mehoffera and Czeremchową streets. Buses of lines 211, 511 and 900 will operate on the changed routes.
Immediately after the completion of works on Modlińska, on Saturday, 7 November, just after midnight, surface repairs on Popiełuszki Street will begin. These works will last until the end of Sunday, 8 November. A section of the carriageway from the intersection with Krasińskiego Street to the exit from the courtyard behind the post office (in front of building Popiełuszki 1) will be closed. Two-way traffic will be introduced on the closed fragment, but exclusively for vehicles accessing properties. A detour towards Plac Grunwaldzki will be via Krasińskiego and Broniewskiego streets. The same routes will apply to buses of lines N13, N46 and N63 heading towards Central Station. Trams, importantly, will run through Popiełuszki Street without changes.
Changes in Tram Services
On Sunday, 8 November, works on tram infrastructure are planned. A switch will be replaced at the Marymont-Potok loop. Due to these works, trams of line 15 will not enter the Marymont-Potok loop. Their route will end at the Metro Marymont loop, after which vehicles will turn around, traveling via Słowackiego Street. On this day, timetables for tram lines 15, 17 and 27 will change. Passengers should follow Warsaw Public Transport announcements for up-to-date information on headways.
Works on Słowackiego and Klasyków Streets
The final phase of the November renovations will begin after the completion of ceremonies related to Independence Day. On Wednesday, 11 November, at 22:00, road workers will begin milling Słowackiego Street. These works will last until Monday, 16 November, at 4:00. A section of the street from Plac Wilsona to the intersection with Potocka and Popiełuszki streets will be closed. Traffic will be directed to detours leading via Popiełuszki and Krasińskiego streets, as well as Mickiewicza and Potocka. Additional options for bypassing the closed section are provided by routes via Marymoncka Street, S8 expressway, Broniewskiego and Krasińskiego streets, or from Plac Wilsona, Krasińskiego, Wisłostrada to S8 expressway and Marymoncka. Buses of lines 116, 518 and N44 will operate on changed routes, bypassing the renovated fragment via Popiełuszki and Krasińskiego streets.
At the same time, i.e., from 11 to 16 November (according to the start and end hours of the works), Klasyków Street will be renovated. Road workers will move to this section immediately after the completion of works on Modlińska. The street will be closed in both directions on the section from Czarodzieja Street to Podkładowa, although the intersections with these streets will remain open. Drivers will be directed to detours leading via Bohaterów, Ołówkowa, Parowozowa, Polnych Kwiatów, Jeżowskiego, Parcelacyjna and Mehoffera streets. Access to Polnych Kwiatów Street will also be possible via Czołowa and Wałuszewska streets. A route change will affect buses of line 152.
