From September 23–25, 2026, the New Mobility Congress 2026 took place in Katowice. It is one of the largest events in Central and Eastern Europe dedicated to the future of urban transport. Over the three days of sessions, experts, local government officials, and business representatives analyzed strategies for developing public transport in rapidly changing cities. The key goal of the meeting was the exchange of experiences and the presentation of best practices in building efficient and sustainable mobility systems.
Among the participants was a delegation from the Warsaw Municipal Transport Office (ZTM). The Warsaw team included ZTM Director Katarzyna Strzegowska, Agnieszka Siekierska-Otłowska (Director of the Commercial Department), Artur Zając (Director of the Transport Operations Department), and Michał Piwowarski from the same department.
The role of transport in metropolitan development was discussed in a smart city panel
Director Katarzyna Strzegowska actively participated in several key substantive blocks. First, she took part in the Mayors' Round Table, and second, in a panel titled “Smart Transit for Smart City. Integrated Mobility as a Factor in Urban Development.” During this discussion, special attention was paid to the role of public transport in shaping modern, resident-friendly metropolitan areas. A significant element of the conversation was the discussion on financing public transport and the necessary legal changes that would allow for better integration of systems.
Additionally, Katarzyna Strzegowska was present during the sessions of the Committee on Autonomous Transport, indicating the Warsaw operator's interest in the development directions of autonomous vehicles in an urban context.
New payment forms in the capital launch in September 2027
Agnieszka Siekierska-Otłowska, Director of the Commercial Department of ZTM, presented information on the implementation of new technological solutions at the panel “Technologies That Will Change Public Transport.” The discussion focused on solutions supporting the development of transport services and improving the quality of passenger service.
Particular weight was given to information about a project implemented by ZTM, which assumes the introduction of modern forms of payment for trips in Warsaw. According to the Director, the launch of the new system is planned for September 2027. Agnieszka Siekierska-Otłowska emphasized that technologies in public transport should not be treated as an end in themselves. They have an instrumental character – their main task is to ensure passengers a comfortable and safe journey.
City integration and on-demand transport in expert debates
The next topics raised by ZTM representatives were challenges related to inter-city connections and local routes. Michał Piwowarski, representing the Transport Operations Department, participated in the debate under the title “You Need to Stitch Together the City. Is It Possible?”. During the discussion, difficulties resulting from the need to integrate dispersed transport systems and ways to better connect metropolitan areas were reviewed.
In turn, Artur Zając, Director of the Transport Operations Department, joined the panel “Mobility at the Click of a Button. Will On-Demand Transport Save Local Connections?”. This topic concerned new organizational models in public transport, including on-demand transport, and strategies to combat transport exclusion for residents of areas with lower traffic intensity.
The participation of the ZTM delegation in the New Mobility Congress 2026 was an opportunity for direct contact with experts from Poland and abroad. Such meetings make it possible not only to present solutions applied in Warsaw but also to draw inspiration for the further development of Warsaw's public transport.
